Rob Lilwall began his career as a high school geography teacher in England. After a series of life-changing expeditions, he transformed into a sought-after keynote speaker, author, and National Geographic adventurer.
His first major journey, Cycling Home From Siberia, took him on a 50,000 km bike ride over three years. He travelled from the edge of Siberia to London, passing through Papua New Guinea, Tibet, and Afghanistan. Along the way, he camped in -40°C, hitched a ride by boat from Hong Kong to Australia, and cycled over the Himalayas.
Rob’s next expedition, Walking Home From Mongolia, saw him trek 5,000 km from Mongolia to Hong Kong. For six months, he crossed the Gobi Desert in winter, followed stretches of the Great Wall, and walked beside the frozen Yellow River.
His toughest challenge came later: a 71-day solo walk across the Taklamakan Desert in Western China. He dragged a homemade cart loaded with water across 1,000 km of sand dunes and swollen rivers. It was grueling, but transformative.
Despite these extreme adventures, Rob doesn’t claim to be superhuman. Instead, he believes in the power of mindset. His journeys have taught him that abilities aren’t fixed—we can grow, adapt, and become more positive, resilient, and courageous.
Rob lives this belief every day. Whether through speaking, writing, charity work, or his next expedition, he continues to push his limits. He encourages others to do the same: step outside the comfort zone, face challenges head-on, and keep growing.
