Louisa Ziane co-founded Toast Ale in 2015 to tackle food waste by turning surplus bread into beer. As Chief Operating Officer, she leads the company’s commitment to people, planet, and profit, ensuring the brand stays true to its mission: ending food waste over a cheeky pint.
With 15 years of experience in climate change mitigation, Louisa has worked as a consultant for the Carbon Trust. She is also a certified management accountant and B Corp Ambassador. In 2021, Louisa trained as a Climate Reality Leader with Al Gore and has delivered guest lectures at City University, LSE, and Oxford Said Business School.
Louisa speaks about carbon footprint measurement, net zero, food waste, and the circular economy, particularly in the context of entrepreneurship and beer.
Did you know that a single sandwich factory wastes 13,000 slices of bread every day? Or that bread is the most wasted food item in the UK? Almost half of the bread produced in the UK is never eaten. This inspired Louisa and her co-founder to create a circular economy solution to reduce waste.
Her message is clear: We are in a climate emergency. Reducing food waste is one of the quickest and most equitable ways to combat the crisis. And what better way to spark a conversation than over a cheeky pint?
