Known for his honesty and no-nonsense style, Liam is passionate about helping others navigate the tough balance between ambitious social change and the harsh realities of building and growing businesses. He often speaks about the loneliness of leadership, as well as how to handle anxiety and competing pressures.
Over the past 30 years, Liam has worn many hats—founder, CEO, chair, speaker, writer, investor, and mentor. He’s been a key figure in the UK’s social enterprise movement, creating and leading more than a dozen purpose-driven ventures across both non-profit and private sectors.
In the 1990s, he led Liverpool’s Furniture Resource Centre (FRC), a pioneering recycling business. This role later took him to the Jamie Oliver Group, where he served as CEO.
Afterward, he founded and led the global leadership development firm Wavelength, eventually exiting in 2018. He then became Executive Chair of digital mental health company Togetherall, where he played a key role in turning the business around.
Currently, Liam is Chair of The Conduit, a members’ club for people driving social change. He also serves as a trustee of the Amani Institute, a global organization supporting social innovation.
Liam has written several books, including his latest, How to Lead with Purpose. He co-founded the Social Enterprise Coalition, which later became Social Enterprise UK. He also helped launch Impact Ventures UK, an initiative that has invested £40 million in early-stage social enterprises. Additionally, he ran Muhammad Yunus’s global solidarity campaign.
Beyond his professional achievements, Liam is a proud grandfather of four — a role he cherishes deeply.
