Dr. Tammy Watchorn worked for years in the public sector trying to drive change and innovation and it was hard. There were so many battles, blockers and naysayers, all getting in the way of the change succeeding, creating unnecessary work and angst to the point it felt like it might be easier to just give up. And then, one day, it dawned on her that almost all of the challenges were other people’s response to change, irrelevant of what the change was.
She started to approach people in different ways, making stealth like Ninja moves and soon found that she could get things done without anyone noticing until it was too late for them to object. This not only got the results needed but also freed up ‘time’. Time to work on more interesting and creative projects, like turning her experiences into ‘The Change Ninja Handbook’, a humorous ‘choose your own’ gamified adventure book.
And then, while finishing off the manuscript for the book, Tammy was thrown a huge life changing curve ball, and not the good kind. An irreversible event that took away her choices and all that she knew and forced her to lead the biggest change, nay transformation, project she would ever lead. Her own life.
This time all the challenges, blockers and naysayers weren’t other people but her own panicking, fearful and doubting brain. And so she gathered all of her change ninja skills, expertise in neuroscience and change management tools and applied them to herself, becoming her very own case study, the results of which can be found in the follow up gamified book ‘The Change Ninja Returns – and this time it’s personal’.
