Debra Searle MVO MBE has an extraordinary story. She gained attention when she attempted to row across the Atlantic with her husband, a 6’5″ international oarsman. Unfortunately, he had to be rescued, and Debra, a novice rower, continued alone without a support boat. She rowed 3,300 miles from Tenerife to Barbados. What should have taken six weeks ended up taking her 3½ months at sea, battling 30-foot waves, sharks, and force 8 squalls in her 23-foot plywood boat.
Since that adventure, Debra has undertaken solo and team expeditions worldwide. She has also represented Great Britain at the European and World Championships in Dragon Boat Racing, winning bronze, silver, and gold medals. Debra has spoken at over 1,100 events across various industries. Yet, she is more than just a sports speaker. She has founded five companies, including MIX Diversity, a consultancy focused on diversity and inclusion. This experience allows her to speak authentically about success in business.
Debra has hosted 40 programs for the BBC and published three books. Her adventurous spirit earned her a Member of the British Empire (MBE) honor from the Queen. She also spent 10 years on the board of a charity alongside two members of the Royal Family, gaining valuable board-level experience. Additionally, Debra was appointed a Member of the Victorian Order (MVO) for her services to the Royal Family.
In 2022, Debra ranked no. 3 in the World’s Top 30 Motivational Speakers, following Simon Sinek at no. 1 and Tony Robbins at no. 2. This made her the highest-ranking female motivational speaker in the world. In 2023, a British newspaper listed her among the World’s Top 50 Inspirational Leaders. Currently, a movie about Debra’s solo Atlantic row is in development in Hollywood.
