BIO

Keynote speaker Chris Moon faces challenges head-on. He never lets adversity slow him down. Chris is one of the few people who escaped a hostage situation orchestrated by Khmer Rouge guerrillas. While working with the charity HALO Trust to clear landmines, he lost his lower leg and arm. Each time, Chris bounces back stronger than ever.

As a passionate speaker, Chris delivers humorous talks on achievement, overcoming challenges, mindset, motivation, and leadership. He draws on his unique experiences to help individuals and organizations improve. For more than a decade, he has assisted businesses in going the extra mile.

Chris has an incredible past. He is one of the few Westerners to survive being taken prisoner by Khmer Rouge guerrillas, one of history’s most ruthless terror groups. During an ordeal that nearly led to his execution, he negotiated his release and that of his two Khmer staff. He never saw himself as a victim.

A former Army officer, Chris worked for a charity that specializes in clearing landmines and debris from war zones in Asia and Africa. In 1995, while clearing an area in Mozambique, he was injured in an explosion that resulted in the loss of his lower right arm and leg. He survived against all odds. This incident did not stop him. Within a year of leaving the hospital, Chris ran the London Marathon. He also campaigned to ban landmines, raised significant funds for disabled people in the developing world, and earned a Master’s Degree in Security Management, focusing on criminology, human behavior, risk, and management theory.

Chris continually challenges himself. He now runs faster than ever since his injury. He is the first amputee to complete the world’s toughest ultra marathons, including the Great Sahara Run. His favorite is the Badwater Death Valley Ultra, a 135-mile race. He recently completed it, cutting almost 12 hours off his previous time.
