Andy joined the Royal Air Force at 18. After training, he flew the iconic English Electric Lightning. He intercepted Russian aircraft during the Cold War. Later, he became a flying instructor.
The RAF selected Andy to join the Red Arrows. He performed over 300 displays and flew in the elite synchro pair. For his service, he received the Queen’s Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air. He earned promotion to Squadron Leader and led 92 Squadron as a Qualified Weapons Instructor.
In 1998, Andy moved to commercial aviation. He became a British Airways Captain on the Boeing 747. He flew passengers around the world from Heathrow and Gatwick.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he co-founded Longtail Aviation. As Chief Pilot, he flew cargo missions delivering PPE and vaccines globally.
