Alex Atherton is an experienced educator, executive coach, and leadership team coach. He spent 25 years in education, with more than half of that time serving as a headteacher in large inner-London secondary schools.
Notably, he became the youngest secondary school head in the country at the time. In addition, he led a pupil referral unit and worked with both primary schools and further education institutions.
After leaving education, Alex launched a leadership consultancy. Since then, he has supported individuals and executive teams across various industries. He believes deeply in the power of professional development and enjoys helping others tackle leadership challenges.
Moreover, Alex specialises in working with senior leaders. He challenges them to think bigger, break through barriers, and create lasting impact. As a result, his clients include CEOs and top-level leaders from the public, private, and voluntary sectors.
His focus on Generation Z emerged from two key sources. First, many clients expressed frustration with hiring, retaining, and motivating younger employees. They turned to Alex for answers. Secondly, he noticed negative media portrayals of Generation Z—the same generation he had worked closely with in schools.
Eventually, after hearing one “snowflake” remark too many, Alex decided to act. He encouraged his own generation to listen more and judge less. Now, he helps organisations shift their mindset and approach, supporting their evolution into stronger multi-generational workplaces.
